All works are edited by Ben Byram-Wigfield, unless otherwise stated. The catalogue is divided into two groups: those works that are written in the stile antico for choir and organ; and those works of 'concert' scale that are for choir with soloists and instrumental accompaniment.

MOTETS, HYMNS, CANTICLES, etc

These works may be performed unaccompanied or with light organ accompaniment. Almost all of the works appear in the sources in both accompanied and unaccompanied forms. Charles Burney, upon hearing Lotti's music performed in Venice in the 1770s, wrote: “It affected me even to tears. The organist here very judiciously suffered the voices to be heard in all their purity, insomuch that I frequently forgot that they were accompanied.”

Lotti's masses are often poorly labelled in many sources, often only described as “mass for four voices” or “missa brevis”. Several are given the name “del sesto tuono”. This makes accurate identification of each mass by name very difficult. Using descriptive names from original sources, this catalogue attempts to provide unique, authoritative names for his works.
